CARIS to Support MCA Surveys
The Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) has purchased a series of licences for CARIS products which includes HIPS/SIPS, GIS and HOM. The MCA is the national maritime administration of the United Kingdom, with responsibility to promote high standards of safety of sea and protection of the marine environment. One, less known, MCA activity is to fund through the Department for Transport the Civil Hydrography Programme intended to ensure that UK waters are surveyed to modern standards in support of safety of navigation. The delivery of the Programme involves a combination of public and private sector involvement through the use of Royal Navy survey parties aboard chartered survey vessels and commercial survey companies engaged in large survey contracts.
