CIS Extends RADARSAT-1 Contract

The Canadian Ice Service (CIS) has awarded RADAR-SAT-1 with another one-year contract for the supply of data for its ice-chart mapping services. With this contract, valued at CAD $1.1 million, the CIS again solidifies the continued use of RADARSAT-1 images for monitoring and mapping the movement of ice in Canadian waters. Once RSI provides the RADARSAT-1 scenes to the CIS, sometimes as many as ten images a day, personnel extract information on ice condition and location to create detailed ice charts that are electronically sent to workstations on-board marine vessels.
