Dynamic Positioning System Training Goes ‘Visual’ at Delgado Community College

Delgado Community College has recently completed another enhancement of its Transas Navi-Trainer Professional 4000 marine simulator systems, with the addition of Dynamic Positioning System (DPS) equipment on their full mission, visual, ship simulator.
The upgrade includes a number of software enhancements provided in the latest version of Transas Navi-Trainer Professional 4000 software version 4.5, plus delivery of a dual redundant “DP2” system with enhanced offshore vessel and platform models, as well as hands on offshore vessel and DPS controls. New capabilities include a unique ability to rotate operation of hardware controls and out of the window visualisations, to simulate operation from both forward and aft operator control positions, with a single set of visual display and hardware controls. The comprehensive equipment, and availability of full visual simulation, provide a truly immersive simulation environment for trainees, several steps beyond the more common PC based DPS trainer.
