Finistère and Mediterranean Bathymetric Lidar Surveys

A contract to conduct an Airborne Lidar Bathymetry (ALB) survey of the Finistère and the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur (PACA) regions of France between February and May 2012 has been assigned to Fugro. The surveys will be conducted with the Fugro LADS Mk 3 ALB system. Covering a total survey area of 2,200 square kilometres, both surveys have been included in one contract in order to optimise survey conditions in two very different environments.

The project is being conducted as part of the Litto3D programme and is important for the protection of the coast from erosion and potential loss of habitat, risk prevention from pollution, inundation and other natural events as well as planning and management of development activities in the coastal zone.

This project follows on from previous ALB projects conducted by Fugro in Australia and Europe utilising the Fugro LADS Mk 3 ALB system, which uses a sophisticated laser sensor fitted to an aircraft to accurately measure water depth and collect supporting data over both the marine and coastal zone environments. The system has been engineered and built by Fugro for safe, high-speed and cost effective surveys in clean, shallow coastal areas in depths of up to 80 metres and is available for deployment worldwide.
