IMCA Puts Personal Resilience in the Spotlight at Oi2018

A key attribute of a successful organisation is its ability to cope with challenging issues and to bounce back, and its capacity to do so is largely dictated by the resilience of its people. Leading members of the International Marine Contractors Association (IMCA) have developed the IMCA Resilience Awareness Programme tailored for the entire marine contracting industry workforce, and this new cross-industry initiative has already generated positive feedback. The programme’s six 10-minute videos are aimed at those all-important members of the workforce, and come with guidance notes for facilitators and an introduction for those embarking on the programme. Visitors to Oceanology International (Oi2018) will be able to watch and comment on the videos at the IMCA stand (A221).

“We have had some highly encouraging feedback on the programme, and look forward to more at Oi,” explains Allen Leatt, CEO of IMCA. “The videos are designed to be used by groups of employees to enable discussion and the sharing of thoughts. There are useful tips on how to develop and improve resilience, both at work and at home.”

“Many employees within the industry have had to cope and adjust to many challenging issues in recent years. The comment from one user, under obvious pressure, sums up many of the reactions we have received: ‘The videos are very interesting and are reminding me about my own positivity and resilience that I can reach for. And, also that I shouldn’t let the last year influence my behaviour. The programme also helped me think about how I can support my team through any change, should I need to.’”

“The free-to-use programme is a great example of how IMCA, and its members, can step in to promote and develop a project of common interest to the industry,” adds Allen Leatt. “We look forward to running the videos at Oi and logging increased use of them online.”

Filming took place onboard vessels of Subsea 7, Saipem, and Heerema Marine Contractors. The programme is sponsored by IMCA’s board member companies: Allseas, Fugro, Heerema Marine Contractors, Saipem, Subsea 7, TechnipFMC and McDermott International, and is based on a Shell concept.
