Offshore AIS Network Complete

Norcontrol IT has supplied Petroleos Mexicanos Exploration (PEMEX) with a large offshore AIS network. Whilst AIS is generally considered a tool for port and coastal applications, the offshore industry can benefit from the extra data it offers. The project is located in the Bay of Campeche in the Gulf of Mexico and spans some 150 platforms throughout the entire area. Norcontrol IT has installed eight AIS base stations supplied by Kongsberg Seatex, a subsidiary of Kongsberg maritime. PEMEX is currently in the process of installing AIS transponders on supply vessels and other ships serving the oil production facilities in the area. System operations will be directed from two control centres, one onshore and the other offshore. In the future, the system will utilise a database that uses real-time data on vessel positions to control the logistics of vessel movements. This system will also include transponder data from helicopter movements.
