PAVS-150 Phased Array Velocity Sensor

Teledyne RD Instruments (RDI) has released the 150 kHz Phased Array Velocity Sensor (PAVS) for extended-range navigation applications. The PAVS150 is the industry's first 1,000-metre depth-rated compact Doppler Velocity Log (DVL) designed to provide precision velocity data at up to 500 metres of altitude above the seafloor.

Driven by customer demand, this extended-range bottom-tracking capability makes the PAVS150 suited for aiding navigation systems on board any platform where the ability to transition from the deep waters of the open oceans to the shallow operating environments of the littoral zone is seen as a critical enabler.

Designed with the Unmanned Underwater Vehicle (UUV) in mind, the PAVS150 is compact enough to be packaged into vehicles as small as 12.75 inches (32.39cm) in diameter and its electronics provide expanded connectivity with other sensors, while minimising overall power consumption. In addition to UUV applications, PAVS150's space saving design over traditional navigation systems meets the payload restrictions onboard manned and unmanned submersibles.

The PAVS150 is available in both an inline and a right angle configuration to accommodate the needs of a variety of applications, and can also be modified to meet customised packaging requirements.
