UV Nitrate Sensor Added to Buoy System
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA, USA) Chesapeake Bay Interpretive Buoy System (CBIBS) is a network of observing platforms that deliver meteorological, oceanographic and water-quality data live to the web at hourly intervals.
The network has recently come under budgetary pressure and has been threatened with closure. In a cooperative effort to highlight the utility and value of the system, Satlantic (Canada) has recently partnered with CBIBS Project Manager Doug Wilson to provide a SUNA UV nitrate sensor for the Susquehanna site. It is hoped that the addition of the real-time continuous nutrient time series data will help promote the importance of the monitoring network for both research and environmental monitoring purposes.
