STR Invests in Tritech’s Gemini 720is Multibeam Imaging Sonar

Subsea Technology & Rentals Ltd (STR) has purchased Tritech’s latest Gemini 720is multibeam imaging sonar at the launch of this year’s Ocean Business Exhibition (at stand G7). This purchase represents a further investment in next-generation technology from STR as it continues to increase its equipment rental inventory.

Scott McLay, sales director at Tritech, said the newly acquired Gemini 720is multibeam sonar provides real-time, crisp imagery for applications including obstacle avoidance and target detection and offers significant enhancements over the earlier Gemini 720i.

With a 120-degree field of view (10-degree tilt) and a fast update rate of 30Hz, the Gemini 720is sonar is ideal for poor-visibility environments. Gemini 720is features a 720kHz operating frequency and an integrated sound velocity sensor to assist in providing the sharpest image possible, with accurate ranging. Redesigned for ease of installation onto a variety of ROVs, AUVs and other underwater platforms, the Gemini 720is operates through Ethernet or VDSL communications. Due to the compact size, the Gemini 720is sonar can also be deployed via a pole-mount assembly (customer supplied).
