Biography

Prof Maria Vernet is a senior researcher/phytoplankton ecologist at Scripps Institution of Oceanography. Dr Vernet has conducted research in the Arctic since 1987 and in Antarctica since 1988 and has taken part in many expeditions. She was part of the team to study the effect of ultraviolet radiation on marine phytoplankton after the discovery of the Antarctic ozone hole in 1985.
