About Applied Acoustic Engineering Ltd.

Applied Acoustic Engineering, based in the east coast town of Great Yarmouth, UK, has been designing and manufacturing subsea acoustic products since 1989. The company initially supported North Sea oil and gas exploration companies but now sells to a multitude of commercial companies, academic institutions and national maritime defence forces worldwide, having grown steadily over the last twenty eight years. Last year alone the company exported to over 61 different countries and its products can be found in the oceans right across the globe.

 Products

The company designs and manufactures two product lines that both use acoustic technology, that is the transmitting and receiving of soundwaves underwater, to either position equipment that cannot be detected visually under the sea, or to survey the uppermost sediment and rock layers of the seabed.

  • The positioning equipment provides the GPS co-ordinates of stationary equipment placed on the seabed, or tracks the path of moving devices, or divers, used in subsea exploration, inspection or search missions. The products include a wide range of positioning beacons and USBL systems with proprietary software.
  • The seabed survey equipment builds a 2D profile, a picture of the geology beneath, that helps determine the best place for construction pilings for wind turbines for example, or the best routes to bury pipes or cables. The products include a range of seismic power sources and energy sources (boomers and sparkers) from 350-12,000J and a new deep-tow sparker that operates 10-20m from the seafloor.

Innovation and quality

Applied Acoustics places great emphasis on high quality reliable products that are of cutting-edge engineering design, versatile and easy to use. The company invests heavily in R&D, manufactures to hold stock for quick turn-around for customers and offers field support and training either at the factory or on site. A network of twenty-two overseas distributors, some with servicing facilities, support the products across the globe.
