Water is our source of life. Just like aquatic environments, the field of earth observation (EO) is very dynamic. The Water Days – an international conference – will focus on innovations and applications of aquatic EO. It will include the SDB Day, a technology and user forum on satellite-derived bathymetry.
Both the number and quality of satellite sensors keep increasing dramatically. This results in “Big Data” and calls for smart processing technology in order to turn the data into actionable information. During the Water Days, we shall discuss key issues on capabilities, data integration and quality standards for aquatic earth observation. The conference will include keynotes, technical presentations, panels and workshops. In addition, you will have the opportunity to exchange on an informal level during lunch and coffee breaks as well as at the evening event on October, 4th.
The agenda will be updated continuously. Read entire program here

Day 1 | SDB Day ’22
Welcome to the 4th edition of the SDB Day. Satellite-Derived Bathymetry has become standard in the toolbox of high-class hydrography. But, what about new technology approaches, the need to integrate other data sources and upcoming challenges? – We look forward to exchanging with you on these topics. And here is more info on past SDB Days.
Day 2 | From Coastal to Inland Waters
This time, the SDB Day will be embedded in the Water Days in order to build a bridge from coastal to inland waters. The conference will address new technologies and applications related to satellite-based mapping and monitoring of waters around the world. – Keep pace with relevant innovations and exchange with key players from industry, research and administration.
Day 3 | Open House / Workshops
This part of the conference is designed for you to interact. Therefore, you are welcome to castle Seefeld – EOMAP’s headquarter. Meet and greet software designers, data analysts and other experts in the field of aquatic earth observation. And get “hands-on” with new software tools for satellite-derived bathymetry and water quality.
South of Munich, the capital of Bavaria, there are plenty of lakes: Ammersee is one of them. It is surrounded by nice villages, such as like Herrsching or Andechs with its famous monastery. The Conference venue is about a 50 minutes’ train ride from Munich centre.
Small castle at the lakeside
Just like SDB Day 2018, the Water Days will be hosted at the “Kurparkschlösschen” – a charming small castle in Herrsching on Ammersee. The castle is located directly at the lakeside, offering a stunning view on the Bavarian water as well as the Alps that rise south of it.
Due to a large exhibition and the Oktoberfest (until Oct. 3rd) in Munich, rooms might be tight. Therefore, we have pre-reserved some rooms in Herrsching until beginning of September. Please contact firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
