Acoustic and Dynamic Positioning on Show

A busy conference season in Houston, USA, will see Sonardyne Inc. participating at the Association of Petroleum Surveying and Geomatics (APSG) Fall meeting, 11 October 2012, and the Marine Technology Society’s (MTS) Dynamic Positioning (DP) Conference, 9 and 10 October 2012. The company will be presenting technical papers at both events, one looking at the evolution of acoustic positioning and the other, the development of inertial navigation for dynamic positioning technologies.

APSG’s bi-annual meetings attract professionals in the fields of geomatics, surveying, positioning, geospatial data management and mapping sciences from a wide variety of companies and contractors. Each meeting is based on a topical theme, with this year’s Fall gathering looking at ‘New Positioning Technologies.’ Taking place at Greenway Plaza, Houston, Jon Martin, Sonardyne’s Navigation Systems engineer, will be presenting ‘Subsea positioning through the ages’, a paper looking at the development of the available technologies across the years.

Held annually and with a similar theme, the MTS DP Conference is internationally recognised as the leading professional symposium covering the latest changes, developments and technology pertaining to dynamic positioning. As part of this year’s conference at the Memorial City Hotel, Houston, James Allen, INS programme manager at Sonardyne will be presenting a paper in the ‘Sensors II’ section of the conference in collaboration with Captain Tim White from Oceaneering International titled ‘Reliable operational use of Acoustically Aided INS for DP in the Gulf of Mexico.’

The results from the paper being presented will also be available to view on Stand 21.
