ADM Anatoly Komaritsin Passed Away

The Department of Navigation and Oceanography of the Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation regrets to announce that Admiral (Ret.)  Anatoly Komaritsin, 70, passed away suddenly on Sunday 12 February 2017. Admiral Komaritsin was a leading personality in the Soviet and Russian Navy, chief of the Head Department of Navigation and Oceanography and Hydrographic Service of the Navy (1994-2006).

Komaritsin, born on 6 June 1946, was also president of the Russian Geographic Society (2002-2009), chairman of the National Oceanographic Commission (1996-2006), Admiral (1998), PhD, military sciences, Doctor, technical sciences, Academician of the Military Sciences Academy, Academician of the Russian Natural Sciences Academy.

Admiral Komaritsin was one of the initiators of establishing the World Hydrography Day, which was approved by the UN General Asembly and is annually held on 21 June.
