Airborne Lidar Bathymetry Survey in Eastern Canada

Fugro has been awarded a new task order by the Canadian Hydrographic Service (CHS) to conduct an Airborne Lidar Bathymetry (ALB) survey in Eastern Canada. The task order, which has been issued under a three-year contract that Fugro holds with the CHS, is in support of their nautical charting programme and involves the survey of multiple sites along the coast of Nova Scotia. This marks the second consecutive year that Fugro’s ALB system has been utilised by CHS to survey the shores of Eastern Canada.

Fugro’s ALB system, SHOALS-1000T, will be used to acquire hydrographic survey data and seabed imagery in shallow coastal waters where it is inefficient, expensive and unsafe to acquire similar information using traditional vessel-based acoustic methods. The data will fill gaps in 'shallow water' and junction with existing deeper water data that has been acquired previously by CHS vessels. All data will be acquired to International Hydrographic Organization (IHO) Order 1, an international standard for conducting hydrographic surveys, and will ultimately be used to update CHS’s nautical charts.

Fugro provides ALB products and services worldwide to public and private sector clientele as a rapid and cost-effective solution to nearshore hydrographic survey needs where scale of the project, time constraints and user safety are of primary concern.
