ArcGIS Pro 3.7 now renders S-101 ENCs with official IHO symbology

Esri has released support for the International Hydrographic Organization's (IHO) S-100 standards in ArcGIS Pro, as hydrographic organizations worldwide work through the shift away from the legacy S-57 Electronic Navigational Chart (ENC) format.

With the release of ArcGIS Pro 3.7, users can bring S-101 Edition 2.0.0 datasets into a map, where they render using the official IHO S-101 portrayal catalogue. For agencies that produce or use S-100 data, the update means these next-generation chart products can now be viewed directly within ArcGIS Pro.

The new version allows users to add S-101 Edition 2.0.0-compliant datasets to the Contents pane and render S-101 ENCs using the official portrayal catalogues. ENC objects can be treated as feature layers, and the software supports S-101 feature control, custom safety contours and colour palette adjustments. Users can also set the display mode – including day and dusk settings – modify viewing groups, and visualize S-57 ENC and S-101 datasets side by side.

Part of a broader maritime data strategy

The release is part of Esri's broader support for nautical chart production and maritime data standards. Its ArcGIS Maritime product extends this work, allowing hydrographic organizations to combine it with other ArcGIS tools to improve efficiency and data sharing. ArcGIS Maritime supports a range of IHO S-57 and S-100 product specifications (including ENC, Inland ENC, AML, S-58, S-4, S-63, and DN) across both desktop and enterprise environments. On the desktop side, scriptable production tools allow entire workflows to be automated. On the web side, electronic charts published as web services support shore-based mission planning and situational awareness, and allow paper charts to be generated as georeferenced PDFs directly from the latest ENC data.
