Basics of Hydrography and Inspection of Subsea Infrastructures

French positioning and geomatic specialist Geraud Naankeu Wati recently published his first book entitled 'Basics of Hydrography and Inspection of Subsea Infrastructures – Principles and Practice'. After several years of experience in hydrography and inspection of subsea infrastructures, the author noticed that it is important for professionals and orderers to have knowledge of these fields and decided to share his theoretical knowledge and experience of the field in positioning, hydrography, and inspection of subsea.

“I wanted to contribute to the training of surveyors and meet the needs in hydrography and inspection of subsea infrastructures. I also intend to help the orderers to specify their internal standards and to evaluate the technical aspects of contractor proposals, in order to get highly accurate data,” said Naankeu Wati.

Data Analyses

The book is useful for students and professionals in hydrography and inspection of subsea infrastructures. They will learn theoretical and operational basic concepts about GNSS, acoustic and inertial positioning systems, 3D laser scanner systems, sub-bottom profilers, side scan sonars, multibeam echo-sounders, acoustic cameras, video cameras and the methods for geo-referencing data and calibrating an acquisition system. Orderers, CEOs and project managers will find solutions including how to better manage survey operations from the bid response process to data analysis, and how to estimate the error budget of a hydrographic survey system.

Who is the Author?

Naankeu Wati works at Sub-C Marine, France, on the implementation of innovative solutions to optimize the operations of hydrographic surveys and inspection of subsea infrastructures. In 2016, he was nominated by the Association Francophone Hydrographique (AFHY) for – and subsequently won – the annual International Federation of Hydrographic Societies (IFHS) Student Award, which rewards the best final year project in hydrography.

Basics of Hydrography and Inspection of Subsea Infrastructures is printed in full colour and contains more than 250 illustrations and 100 recommendations to facilitate the reader’s understanding. It is available as a printed version at www.geraudnaankeuwati.com. Price €79.95.
