Belgian Cooperation on Scientific Vessel

The Flanders Marine Institute (VLIZ) and the Flemish vessel management organisation (VLOOT) have entered into a cooperation agreement to manage the new scientific vessel Simon Stevin, which was put into service on 25 May 2012.

Prof. dr. Jan Mees, general manager at VLIZ, looked back fondly on ’10 years of Zeeleeuw’ but was proud to announce that the Simon Stevin includes advanced technology. "She is able to operate as a silent vessel, which brings the Flemish maritime scientific research to a new level."

Kapt. Yves Goossens, general manager at VLOOT, elaborated on the main aspects of the agreement and thanked prof. dr. Magda Vincx of the Ghent University, one of the founders of the VLIZ  and still involved as user and client of the project.
