Blueye Robotics moves beyond hardware with integrated subsea platform

With the simultaneous launch of two next-generation ROVs and a cloud-based fleet management platform, Blueye Robotics has taken a significant step beyond hardware. This move signals the ambition of the company – a Norwegian developer of underwater drones and robotic systems – to own the full workflow from underwater deployment to data analysis and reporting.

The launch has drawn attention beyond the product announcements themselves. For the Ocean Autonomy Cluster, a Norwegian industry body bringing together companies, research institutions and end users around ocean autonomy technology, it reflects a broader industry shift toward tightly integrated autonomy stacks combining hardware, edge AI and cloud-based mission control.

The centrepiece is the Blueye X7, a seven-thruster ROV built for complex missions demanding precision and modularity. With full six degrees of freedom and seven guest ports for sensors and tools, it targets demanding applications including infrastructure inspection, search and recovery, aquaculture and port monitoring. Onboard AI enables real-time object recognition, tracking and turbidity filtering directly on the 4K camera feed, with support for custom AI model deployment on the vehicle itself.

Alongside it, the Blueye X3 Ultra brings expanded capability to the compact inspection segment. Built on Blueye's fast-deployment platform, it adds 4K HDR imaging, enhanced positioning and increased compute power via NVIDIA Jetson Orin NX – enabling real-time image enhancement and AI-driven object detection. Three guest ports maintain modularity while retaining the compact, ready-to-deploy profile that defines the X3 series.

Closing the data loop

What ties the hardware together is Blueye Cloud, a browser-based platform for fleet and mission management that may prove as strategically significant as the ROVs themselves. Users can replay dives with depth tracks, sonar overlays and synchronised media, and share results via simple links, no additional software required. The platform introduces project-based reporting with optional AI-assisted draft generation, linking findings directly to mission data and annotations. By running all systems on a shared software architecture, Blueye ensures synchronised updates and consistent functionality across mixed fleets, creating a true end-to-end pipeline from deployment through to analysis.

The commercial logic is clear: smaller teams executing increasingly complex underwater operations, with less overhead and faster turnaround on data. In a market where subsea inspection demand is growing but skilled offshore personnel remain a constraint, that proposition is well-timed.
