Call for Speakers: Marine Measurement Forum 59

The Hydrographic Society UK (THS UK) is to host the 59th Marine Measurement Forum (MMF) at the Upstream Learning Centre, located on BP's International Centre for Business & Technology (ICBT) campus in Sunbury-on-Thames, on Friday 7 July 2017. The organisers are seeking speakers who would like to give a short presentation (approx. 20 minutes) at MMF59 on a topic relating any aspect of measurement within the marine environment.

Professionals who would like to be considered to present at MMF59, are requested to submit a title, 200-300 word abstract and biography to [email protected] by Friday 5 May 2017.

MMF59 will be preceded by another half-day event hosted by the Society at The Magpie, also in Sunbury, on Thursday 6 July. HydSoc@TheMagpie: Then & Now is an afternoon networking event celebrating the role that the hydrographic pioneers and innovators of the last 50 years have played in influencing and inspiring contemporary techniques and equipment. Located on the picturesque banks of the Thames, The Magpie inn played host to over 80 meetings of the Society's first Region (Home Counties West - now Southern). It and those gatherings are a key part of the organisation's folklore. HydSoc@TheMagpie will be free to attend for members and there will be a charge of GBP15 + VAT for non-members – including MMF59 participants. Prior booking will be essential for everyone attending.

Marine Science over the Last Half Century

Echoing the theme of the Society's networking event at The Magpie the previous afternoon, MMF59 would also welcome talks which convey the staggering advancements in marine science over the last half century and/or contrast the techniques employed 'then and now'.

The Marine Measurement Forum (MMF) is a series of one-day, non-profit making events that provides opportunities for the informal exchange of ideas, knowledge, techniques and developments across an extensive range of marine scientific measurement activities.

Attendees typically include scientists, surveyors, engineers and business people from a variety of organisations including research centres, academia, manufacturers, survey companies, consultants, monitoring authorities, dredging companies, port authorities, oil companies and societies.

The day will follow the customary MMF format of a series of short talks by representatives from research institutions and commercial organisations on relevant topics ranging from scientific research to instrumentation and survey projects. These will be interspersed with refreshment breaks and the chance to network and share ideas with delegates from the various professions involved in quantifying and visualising the marine environment. There will also an opportunity to visit BP's facilities, including the drilling simulator and high definition distance learning facilities.

Marine Measurement Forum Registration

Delegate Fee: GBP45 per person (including light refreshments). VAT is not applicable. MMFs are invariably well attended so early registration is recommended. Online registration is open. For further information about MMF59 please contact Helen Atkinson.
