CSA Ocean Sciences and Okeanus Provide Emergency Response Survey Resources - 30/08/2017
CSA Ocean Sciences Inc. (CSA) and Okeanus Science & Technology (Okeanus) are working together to stage a full range of specialised survey and monitoring equipment in Houston and Louisiana to deploy in the immediate aftermath of Hurricane Harvey. The resources will help evaluate the storm’s impact on coastlines, waterways, bayous, ship channels and terminals, marine infrastructure and oil & gas-related facilities located on or near the water.
According to Gordon Stevens, vice president and general manager of CSA, hurricanes often dramatically impact coastlines and waterways in affected areas, deposit debris into lakes, harbours and ship channels creating hazards to navigation that can leave waterways and adjoining infrastructure out of commission for an extended period. With Okeanus, emergency response personnel and equipment is available, standing by in Houston and Louisiana to assist local companies and organisations with geophysical surveys and environmental impact assessments in the aftermath of the storm.
CSA is staging the following types of equipment for deployment as required:
- Small survey vessels
- Sidescan, multibeam and singlebeam sonars
- Sub-bottom profilers
- Observation remotely operated vehicles (ROVs)
- Unmanned surface vessels (USVs)
