EdgeTech and Esri Cooperating on Data to ENC Solution

EdgeTech has entered into a cooperative engagement with Esri. Utilising Esri’s ArcGIS for Maritime platform in combination with the EdgeTech 6205 sonar, customers have access to real-time, high-resolution, three-dimensional (3D) maps of the seafloor and electronic navigation charts stored and accessible in the cloud, anywhere, anytime and on any device.

To meet the emerging requirement of creating hydrographic products, including charts, more efficiently and accurately, the two companies have collaborated and streamlined the process of bathymetric data collection, management and production. Customers can quickly produce and access IHO S-57 compatible data which can be published and used directly from the ArcGIS Cloud or easily downloaded to be used locally, either as an Electronic Navigational Charts (‘ENCs’) or any other hydrographic product your organisation may need.

Faster with Higher Data Coverage

Near-shore surveys are typically inefficient and costly due to the design of legacy instruments. EdgeTech’s Multi Phase technology allows a user to collect wide swathe, wide angle, high resolution bathymetry data that’s compliant to IHO Special Order S-44 in up to 9 times water depth. This can be done at coverage rate that is at least twice that of a conventional multi-beam echo sounder and is an order of magnitude faster than using a single beam echo sounder. The result is an effective shallow water hydrographic survey tool that is simple to use and cost effective. Once the bathymetric data is acquired, it can be processed on site and then in near real time transmitted to the Esri’s GIS platform.

Esri’s innovative ArcGIS platform provides the system of records for hydrographic data, enabling all interested parties access to this information wherever and whenever they need it, locally in their desktop computers and through cutting edge Web GIS technology in any device.

With this streamlined workflow ‘from the Sensor to the Cloud’ concept of operation, users can expect to significantly cut the time from data acquisition to published information, including bathymetric surfaces, dangers and wrecks, charts and any combination with other GIS data.
