Exail sells first Gaps M3 USBL to major Asian offshore group

A major offshore construction group in Asia has purchased Exail’s Gaps M3 compact USBL (ultra-short baseline) positioning system for use in a subsea cable laying project. The system will support precise underwater positioning in a dynamic coastal environment.

The Gaps M3 was chosen for its ability to provide high-precision subsea tracking while remaining cost-effective. When integrated with a vessel’s existing attitude and heading reference system, it delivers accuracy comparable to Exail’s high-end Gaps USBL models, making it a practical option for operations that require reliable subsea navigation at a lower cost.

“This first sale of the Gaps M3 reflects the growing demand for compact and affordable subsea positioning systems that maintain high performance,” said Lucy Xi, regional sales manager at Exail. “With its versatility, ease of deployment and cost-effectiveness, the Gaps M3 is a valuable tool for offshore operators seeking efficient and accurate tracking capabilities.”

The Gaps M3 is suitable for both permanent and temporary setups, making it a practical choice for coastal and nearshore projects where space, budget and flexibility matter. Its ability to track targets at high elevations supports a range of offshore operations, including subsea cable laying, pipeline installation and marine construction.
