FDIS ISO 19379 Unanimously Approved by 10 Nations

Word was received that the Final Draft International Standard (FDIS) ECS Database Standard, ISO 19379 was unanimously approved by Participating members of TC8 SC6. The Ten members voting were: Germany, Italy, Japan, DPR Korea, Republic of Korea, Netherlands, Norway, Russian Federation, United Kingdom and the United States. In addition, two Observer members, Cuba and Slovakia voted approval. Two countries, the UK and the US approved with corrections to the FDIS. These editorial corrections will be made, and the FDIS will be sent to the Secretariat for publication of the standard by ISO Headquarters. Owners and operators of vessels currently using ECS, or who plan to do so in the future, should become familiar with the contents of 19379 so as to be able to determine if their systems measure up to the levels of quality established by the new standard. 19379 can also be used as a test for the procurement of new databases.
