Following the Wind That Blows in the Hydrographic Industry

After almost two years, we – the editors of Hydro International – were finally able to attend a large event again, and what better way to kick off than with Oceanology International? It was great to once again immerse ourselves in the exciting fields of hydrography and oceanography and, if there is one thing that was confirmed during our three days in London, it is the enormous potential to be found in the energy transition. The dominant theme was offshore wind, and the many chances that it offers for our sector.

As the team behind Hydro International, we used our time in London to taken in and absorb all we could. We had some engaging conversations, and returned home with suitcases full of ideas and inspiration. One thing we can reveal already, although it probably won’t surprise anyone: we plan to expand our focus on the energy transition. The online theme weeks Offshore Surveying & Marine Renewables were a good start, but from now on the energy transition will run as a common theme throughout our magazine, website and newsletter. This will also involve the energy sector, as it is not only important for us as hydrographers to know what we ourselves are capable of, but also to be able to anticipate the challenges ahead and the needs of the energy industry.
