French Survey for Ravenel Wreck

On 22 April 2014, the French hydrographic research vessel BH2 Laplace started a journey from Brest, France, to Saint-Pierre and Miquelon as well as the Canadian shores. One of the objectives is to find the wreck of the military trawler Ravenel which was lost in January 1962.

Laplace includes 54 staff, 12 of whom are from SHOM. She entered in service in 1988 and has Brest as her home port since 1999. Laplace normally is in operation at the French coast for bathymetric surveys, searching for wrecks and other obstacles for navigation to be displayed on the nautical charts; or for oceanographic research that may bring her further away from France, sometimes working together with other interested countries.
