Geo Plus Adds Hybrid Survey Vessel

A technologically advanced vessel has been added to the Netherlands-based Geo Plus fleet, with the christening of the Geo Focus on 23 June 2012. She is a 35m diesel electric vessel, capable of sailing without the main engines at a speed of 10kn, thus reducing fuel and Nox. Geo Focus can operate 24/7 for a period of two weeks.

The Geo Focus is made for offshore use, and she is equipped with an extended survey suite: Kongsberg EM2040 multi-beam echosounder, a Kongsberg EA 400 single-beam, Kongsberg HIPAP 501 USBL positioning, Reson SVP 14/15 sound velocity probe and Ixsea Hydrins III INS. The vessel is DP1-classified.

The hybrid concept is new in her class, making the vessel economical in operation – it also provides her with a Green Passport and Environment Protection class notification. Accommodating 18 staff, the Geo Focus is available for a wide range of demanding jobs. An A-Frame and 600mm moon pool provide tools for sampling or ROV operations.
