Guernsey Electricity Marine Data Management
Early in October 2003 Fugro Survey Ltd installed a ‘Marine Data Management System’ for Guernsey Electricity in the Channel Islands. This was the first installation by GeoSoft Solutions, a new department within Fugro Survey Ltd, Great Yarmouth, UK charged with developing GIS solutions for internal and external clients. GeoSoft Solutions developed the marine data management system for Guernsey Electricity such that as the operator and supplier of GuernseyÕs electricity, any incidents happening close to their power cables at sea could be monitored from their control room. Functionality embedded within the system includes the display of S57 vector data, an electronic navigation chart (ENC), spatial attributes, as-laid cable positions and zoom, pan and vessel position display. Someone in the control room is able to enter the position and heading of a vessel through the keyboard and set a circle of influence.
