Hydro '24 kicks off with key insights on hydrographic innovation
The Hydro ‘24 conference and exhibition organized by the DHyG and the IFHS got under way on Tuesday in Warnemünde (Rostock), Germany. Hotel Hohe Düne, on the shores of the Baltic Sea, is well-known terrain for the hydrographic community, as the yearly gathering of hydrographers returned after being held here in 2010 and 2016.
Around 350 delegates, close to 60 exhibitors and more than 50 speakers will touch many ‘hot topics’ in hydrography over the course of three days. In the opening session, DHyG chairman Thomas Dehling welcomed everybody, alongside IHO secretary-general Mathias Jonas and David Vincentelli, chairman of the IFHS, and others.
Keynote speaker Xavier Lurton set the scene with an interesting presentation about the power of backscatter, and former IFHS chairman Holger Klindt advocated a larger role for hydrography in monitoring critical marine infrastructures. At the opening session, the jazz trio added some much appreciated cheer to the November morning in northern Germany.
