HydroSurv and BeyonC partner to scale uncrewed subsea survey

In a deal designed to reduce cost, emissions and reliance on crewed offshore vessels, HydroSurv's REAV-60 USV is being paired with BeyonC's Syncro ROV – developed specifically for repeatable, high-efficiency shallow-water survey. This will result in an integrated uncrewed surface vessel (USV) and subsea system for shallow-water pipeline and cable inspection.

The partnership between HydroSurv and Norwegian subsea specialist BeyonC addresses a growing industry challenge: subsea cable and pipeline networks are expanding rapidly, while operators face mounting pressure to document asset integrity more frequently and reduce the carbon intensity of offshore operations. Conventional crewed vessels are increasingly difficult to justify for routine, repeat survey work.

From trials to commercial system

Building on earlier trials in which BeyonC used a smaller USV to position Syncro remotely, the two companies have now developed a bespoke Launch & Recovery System to fully host the ROV aboard the REAV-60, adding tether management, precision station-keeping and automated ROV following. Preliminary design began in December 2025, with hull construction now underway and completion expected soon.

The commercial rationale is substantial. BeyonC estimates the recurring pipeline and cable survey market represents a NOK 5 billion opportunity, requiring around 70 operational Syncro systems to meet projected demand. HydroSurv's CEO David Hull sees the collaboration as proof that mid-size USVs can take on defined roles in subsea inspection – delivering the stability and repeatability that conventional vessels have traditionally provided, without the associated cost or crewing requirements. BeyonC CEO Morten Hegdal frames it as an inflection point: capacity and emissions now matter as much as technical performance, and the industry needs a more scalable survey model to keep pace with expanding infrastructure and tightening integrity requirements.
