IMCA’S Copenhagen Meeting Focuses on Offshore Renewables
Offshore renewables are very much in the spotlight at the International Marine Contractors Association’s (IMCA) Europe & Africa Section meeting that will be held in Copenhagen, Denmark on Tuesday 14 June, with five presentations on various aspects of the rapidly expanding sector.
The meeting is open to IMCA members and other interested guests and is free to attend. All who intend being there should contact [email protected] to register. There is also the opportunity to join via a webinar link.
Being held at the Scandic Copenhagen, the meeting begins at 10:00 with a welcome by Pascal Grosjean of Technip and Chairman of the IMCA Europe & Africa Section. Richard Benzie will then provide a general IMCA update encompassing an IMCA Overview; news on the IMCA Governance Review, a Secretariat Update, and news on the IMCA Annual Seminar being held in the autumn in London. His presentation will be followed by Technical Adviser John Bradshaw providing Core Activity, Technical, and Policy and Regulatory reports.
Richard Benzie, IMCA’s technical director who will be speaking at the event, sees that an increasing number of IMCA members active in European seas are becoming involved with offshore renewables, so the programme is designed to look at a range of activities relating primarily to the offshore wind industry. There a strong correlation between offshore oil and gas and offshore wind marine contracting so the meeting will have significance across IMCA’s membership.
Offshore Renewable Presentations Programme
The first of the five offshore renewables presentations ‘Safety and Cooperation’ will be delivered by Kate Harvey of the G9 Offshore Wind Health and Safety Association prior to the networking lunch.
In the early afternoon there are four further presentations. The first ‘Going further offshore: Assessment of jack-up wind turbine installation vessels’ features Mark Hayward of DNV GL. Tim van Keulen of VBMS then follows with ‘A logistics concept and case study for managing cable lay operations in an offshore windfarm’. ‘Walk to work’ by Wiebe Jan Emsbroek from Ampelmann is next on the agenda and followed by David Wilczynski from Swire Blue Ocean talking about ‘A contractor’s perspective of offshore renewables’. The meeting is scheduled to finish at 15:15.
