Innovations at Coastal Conference

This year's Coasts, Marine Structures and Breakwaters Conference at the International Conference Centre (EICC), to be held from 16th to 18th September 2009 in Edinburgh (UK), is organised by the Institute of Civil Engineers and it addresses the design, performance, installation and maintenance of breakwaters, sea walls, jetties, piers and beach control structures. The conference also covers the latest material in the design and installation of structures for extracting marine and wind energy around near shore seas and coasts.

The conference will include a technical paper co-written by CodaOctopus Products (also booth 18 in the exhibition) and Van Oord Dredging and Marine Contractors. CodaOctopus will also have a technical exhibition stand.

The technical paper was selected from over 210 abstracts submitted for the conference.  Entitled "Innovative Technique for Single Layer Armour Unit Placement: An Example of Increased Production Efficiency Whilst Improving Health and Safety", the paper describes the breakwater armouring work at the newly-expanded LNG terminal at Ras Laffan, Qatar. Co-written by Stephen Auld (CodaOctopus) and Peter van Geldere (Van Oord), the presentation includes examples, photographs, statistics, comparisons, software screenshots and data which demonstrate the advantages brought to the project by the Coda Echoscope 3D real-time sonar.

The paper will be presented before lunch on Thursday, 17th September (Stream C - Breakwaters). It features amongst a full programme offering the latest research and most up-to-date case studies in coasts, marine structures and breakwaters and an electronic copy of the papers is available to all conference delegates in advance, to encourage informed discussion during the event. A printed copy of the conference proceedings will also be provided to registered delegates.
