Still Time to Register Teams for Shell Ocean Discovery XPRIZE
Team registration for the USD7 million Shell Ocean Discovery XPRIZE closes on 30 September 2016. The Shell Ocean Discovery XPRIZE incentivises the development of the autonomous underwater robots needed to map the sea floor at 5m or higher resolution and provide high-definition images of the deep sea. Currently, 22 teams representing over 10 countries have registered to compete in this competition.
Within this is a USD1 million National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Bonus Prize for teams who can develop breakthrough underwater devices that can autonomously track a biological or chemical to its source.
No Need for Supporting Vessels
The deployment of these Competition Entries will be either from shore or aerial through drones, eliminating the need for expensive ships. The innovative technology that emerges from the Ocean Discovery XPRIZE will be disruptive and provide us with unprecedented access the deep sea environment.
