Kongsberg Maritime’s UC 2005

The first stage of Kongsberg Maritime's Simulator Users Conference 2005 (UC 2005) program has been completed with an event in Cork, Ireland, on 17-19 April. Over 100 European simulator experts from 19 countries joined Kongsberg Maritime at the National Maritime College of Ireland for two days of discussion based on the theme: 'Share the Experience'.
Day one of the conference included product updates delivered by Kongsberg Maritime simulation product managers. Considerable interest was raised in the range of new and innovative product features that have been added to the navigation, cargo, communications and engine room product lines.
Customers were also introduced to electronic mentoring features, which are now implemented and available on Polaris Navigation and Neptune Engine/Cargo simulators.
Following an informative presentation on the key subject of hydrodynamic modelling, delegates were briefed on the latest developments on a 30 month Leonardo da Vinci project to produce an IMO compliant web-based training course for mates on tankers. Day one was concluded with a presentation from Det Norske Veritas on the SeaSkill service. This service has been designed to assure the quality of the learning experience, with UC 2005 the ideal place to discuss its benefits.
Day two revisited the electronic mentoring functionalities of Kongsberg Maritime's current generation of simulators with a session focusing on E-Coach. This was followed by four separate workshops that enabled delegates to discuss future requirements of simulation in order that
Kongsberg Maritime can bridge the functionality gap of educator's requirements and future product offerings.
The closing session was taken by co-hosts the National Maritime College of Ireland with highlights of the address reflecting on the partnership between the Naval Service, Cork Institute of Technology and Focus Education that forms the basis of this training institute. Focusing on the co-operation between Naval and Merchant Marine organisations was the ideal way to round-off the presentations and perfectly reflected the 'Share the Experience' theme of UC 2005.
With the European phase of UC 2005 complete, Kongsberg Maritime is now looking forward to the second phase being held in Manilla, Phillipines on October 16th – 18th and the final phase in Orlando, USA in November.
