Korea Speeds Up Surveying Waters near Dokdo

A Korean vessel, currently surveying the East Sea, is reported to have made its way to the country's easternmost islets of Dokdo. According to Kyodo News Agency at 6:40 a.m. this morning, the Haeyang 2000 vessel entered the waters near Dokdo which Japan also claims is part of its exclusive economic zone. A Japanese patrol boat reportedly ordered the vessel to stop its activity immediately but the Haeyang 2000 refused, saying it was only surveying South Korean waters and should not be obstructed. Government officials in Seoul say Korea may speed up the maritime survey as it sees no point of prolonging the diplomatic row with Japan on the issue.
