Managing Bathymetric Data with RDBMS Technology

During the CHC 2010 Conference, Caris is organising workshop on bathymetric data management utilizing relational database management systems (RDBMS). This workshop is free for registrants at the CHC but requires pre-registration on the CHC website as places are limited. It will take place on Tuesday 22nd June 2010, from 1:30pm to 5:00pm.

A need is becoming more and more apparent across the hydrographic sector for robust and efficient bathymetric data management utilizing relational database management systems (RDBMS).

The solution must enable the storage and management of high-density bathymetric surfaces from Multibeam Sonar and LiDAR surveys alongside Singlebeam data and the sparse soundings often found in historical archives.

The latest generation of the Caris Bathy DataBASE software will be showcased during this workshop with focus and explanation on the two new RDBMS options, Oracle Spatial and PostgreSQL. In addition the latest tools and functionality will be highlighted, and the metadata provisions of the system explained, finally the sharing of bathymetry data through the Web will be demonstrated utilizing the Spatial Fusion Enterprise software and Spatial Data Infrastructure concepts.

Participants of this workshop will discover the integral role of bathymetric data management in their Ping-to-Chart operation.

The workshop will be given in English only.
