Mensun Bound to deliver keynote at Marine Measurement Forum

Renowned marine archaeologist Mensun Bound is set to deliver the keynote address at the 68th Marine Measurement Forum (MMF), scheduled for 11 June 2025 at the award-winning Hogs Back Brewery in Tongham, Surrey, England.

Often referred to as the ‘Indiana Jones of the Deep,’ Bound will present ‘The Quest to Find Endurance,’ detailing his role as director of exploration during the 2022 expedition that successfully located Sir Ernest Shackleton’s ship, Endurance, resting 3,000 metres beneath the Weddell Sea’s ice-covered surface.

The discovery, achieved through the Endurance22 expedition, marked a significant milestone in maritime archaeology. A recent in-depth article in Hydro International highlights the advanced hydrographic technologies and the challenges faced during the mission, such as the use of a tethered Saab Sabertooth hybrid AUV/ROV and the implementation of a 3D digital twin of the wreck.

Organized by OceanWise, the MMF is a long-standing, not-for-profit series established in 1983, bringing together marine professionals from the UK and beyond to discuss advancements in marine science, technology and data. The 68th edition promises a comprehensive programme of technical presentations, live demonstrations and discussions, complemented by optional brewery tours and tastings.
