Nanometrics and K.U.M. launch turnkey offshore seismic monitoring solution
Nanometrics, a global leader in passive seismic instrumentation and turnkey services, has joined forces with K.U.M. Umwelt- und Meerestechnik Kiel GmbH (K.U.M.), a specialist in offshore engineering and ocean-bottom sensor deployment. Together, they are launching the first fully integrated passive seismic monitoring solution for offshore oil & gas and carbon capture and storage (CCS) operations.
This strategic partnership combines Nanometrics’ expertise in high-resolution seismic data acquisition and 24/7 processing with K.U.M.’s decades of experience in rugged offshore deployment. The result is a scalable, reliable solution that supports the full lifecycle of offshore projects – from exploration and production to long-term CCS monitoring.
At the core of the system is Nanometrics’ state-of-the-art data centre, powered by eighth-generation AI analyst algorithms. This advanced platform delivers continuous, high-resolution seismic data with accuracy trusted by operators and regulators worldwide.

This partnership delivers a fully turnkey solution for baseline seismicity surveys, with advanced data acquisition and processing. Seismic data is collected using K.U.M.’s NAMMU ocean-bottom deployment vehicles equipped with Nanometrics’ best-in-class ocean-bottom seismometers. Nanometrics also provides its leading capabilities in seismic data processing and interpretation, ensuring high-quality insights throughout.
Baseline surveys are conducted pre-injection to establish natural background seismicity before activities such as carbon storage or oil and gas production begin. Ongoing monitoring then detects any changes relative to that baseline – enabling operators to assess seismic risk, meet regulatory requirements and maintain safe operations.
The joint solution is available globally – including in Europe, Asia, Australia, South America and North America – supporting offshore projects across the full CCS and energy lifecycle.
