New Arcs Charts for Canada

The UKHO has announced a significant increase in the number of Admiralty Charts available as part of the highly popular ARCS series. ARCS (Admiralty Raster Chart Service) charts are digital copies of the globally renowned Admiralty paper charts and are presented, along with weekly updates, on CD-Rom. As a result of positive long-term negotiations between the UKHO and Nautical Data International, Inc. (NDI) of Canada, ARCS charts now offer significantly extended coverage in Canadian waters. The UKHO is midway through issuing new charts in Canadian waters in conjunction with NDI and the Canadian Hydrographic Service (CHS), with 54 new ARCS charts launched immediately and a further forty to be released as new charts become available.
Admiralty ENC Service First with SA
The UKHO has released the first South African Electronic Navigational Charts (ENCs) of the important harbour of Durban as part of its Admiralty ENC Service. Durban is the first in a series of approximately eighty ENC cells that the South African National Hydrographic Office (SANHO) is expected to release over coming months. The UKHO Admiralty ENC Service has been available since July 2002 to provide one-stop-shop access to ENCs. Coverage now includes ENCs from South Africa, Belgium, Germany, Netherlands, Portugal, Spain and the UK. The addition of South African ENCs extends coverage beyond Europe.
