Miros A/S of Asker, Norway, has recently been awarded three important contracts. The first is for 32 Microwave Radar for high-speed ferries, type Miros Microwave Altimeter SM-048/2, ordered by TurboJet (Far East Hydrofoils), Hong Kong. The sensors are for delivery 2004 and 2005. Five Miros Range Finders for bridge clearance, tide and wave monitoring, type SM-094 have also been ordered by the US National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). Two of these are for bridge clearance surveillance (Long Beach, Gerald Desmond Bridge and Chesapeake Canal Bridge). Three sensors are for tide monitoring, incorporating Miros latest Digital Signal Processor (DSP) upgrade that allows processing of every up/down sweep, short-range sweep number increase from 10 to 192 sweeps per second and frequency selectable from sub-Herz to more than 50Herz. The DSP will ensure that no data is lost and that stability and reliability are increased. A further order has been placed for one Miros Wavex System for 126m for high-speed vehicle ferry. This Wave Monitoring System delivery to Austal Ships will be the first to an Australian shipbuilder.
