New Lightweight Side Scan Towfish

EdgeTech has released a new lightweight version of their 4200-FS towfish, the 4200-FSL. The system itself will now be called the 4200 Series Side Scan Sonar System.

When purchasing the 4200 Series, the user can choose between either the stainless steel 4200-FS towfish for deeper operation of up to 2,000 metres or the new lightweight aluminum 4200-FSL towfish for shallower operation of up to 300 metres. Both of these towfish are available with either 120/410 kHz or 300/600 kHz dual simultaneous frequencies depending upon the user’s desired applications.

In addition to selecting the towfish type and frequencies, the user also has three different topside processor options for added versatility. The Model 4200 Topside Processor is a standard 19” rack mount configuration and includes EdgeTech’s DISCOVER software to process, store and display data. The Model 4200-P Topside Processor is a portable version of the Model 4200 rack mount with the same features and software. All of the electronics for the 4200-P Portable Topside are housed in a waterproof ‘suitcase-style’ enclosure and the sonar data is displayed on a laptop via a wired or wireless Ethernet connection. For customers who wish to use their own 3rd party topside processor, EdgeTech also offers the 701-DL (Digital Link) which acts as an interface between the 4200 Series towfish and a 3rd party topside or a PC running EdgeTech’s DISCOVER software.

The 4200 Series Side Scan Sonar System still offers two software selectable modes of operation; High Definition Mode (HDM) or High Speed Mode (HSM). In HDM the system operates conventional dual simultaneous frequencies. In HSM the system operates in MultiPulse mode on either selected frequency. Real time selection of the 2 modes allows the user to choose the one best suited to his task at hand.
