New Wheelmark Approved Gyrocompass Series From Simrad

Simrad is launching a sophisticated new range of gyrocompasses for professional applications. The 80 Series consists of the GC80 and GC85, which are both fully approved by the IMO. In addition the GC85 is approved for high speed vessels.
Designed to be the most flexible on the market in terms of installation, configuration and costs, Simrad’s new gyrocompass range boasts the added advantage that no annual servicing is required. This makes them the ideal gyro system for any kind of vessel that needs an approved gyro system. Simrad will still offer its compact, ‘all-in-one’ RGC50 gyrocompass, which has been a big success for many years and is ideal for smaller vessels and non-IMO applications.
The new Simrad 80 Series utilises advanced new technology and features a fully sealed sensitive element. This makes installation quick and easy and the very low RPM rate reduces wear, negating the need for oil changes and increasing overall lifetime of the gyrocompass. The fully sealed sensitive elements are easily swapped out for onboard service and both the GC80 and GC85 come with a full 2 year warranty.
Flexibility of the range is increased further as Simrad offers a wide range of control units and accessories including an Azimuth circle for use on Simrad’s bearing repeaters. Control units come in three versions: Compact, Expanded and Dual – a Remote Control panel also available for ‘flush mounting’ at the helm. All control panels show data from the main and backup gyrocompasses and are fully dimmable for optimum viewing day or night.
A full range of repeaters with different holders for all vessel applications is also available. The wide range of control and repeater options ensures that the highly accurate heading data derived from Simrad’s new Gyrocompasses is available exactly when and where it is needed, and in all conditions. The gyrosystem can be interfaced to most equipment onboard that needs a heading input by providing NMEA, ROT and step output. For further retrofit options, Simrad offer special repeater interface boxes to enable full compatibility.
The professional application of these systems is improved even further by interfacing a Simrad HS50 GPS compass to form a total redundant heading reference system. Complete backup of heading information to autopilots, radar etc ensures that no interruption to heading data can occur, thus improving vessel operation.
