NextGeo invests in fleet growth

Next Geosolutions, an international leader in marine geosciences and offshore construction support services – primarily within the renewable energy sector – has announced the expansion of its offshore fleet with the acquisition of the vessel Sea Admiral. Renamed NG Explorer, the vessel will support geophysical, geotechnical, environmental and UXO survey operations.

The addition of the NG Explorer strengthens NextGeo’s strategic positioning and broadens its capabilities in the marine geosciences sector. With its advanced design and operational flexibility, the vessel will not only enable the execution of existing projects from the company’s growing order book but also open new opportunities in a rapidly evolving market.

Giovanni Ranieri, CEO of NextGeo, emphasized the importance of the acquisition, stating: “This new vessel represents a key step in our growth strategy and reflects our commitment to expanding our owned fleet for specialized activities.” He elaborated that the purchase aligns with objectives outlined during the company’s IPO, balancing an asset-light model by combining owned and chartered vessels. Ranieri also noted that this acquisition brings the company’s owned offshore fleet to four vessels, including the forthcoming Deep Helder, which is set to join the fleet in January 2025.

Built in 2010, the NG Explorer is a 58-metre-long, 14-metre-wide multi-purpose survey vessel (MPSV) equipped with a dynamic positioning class II (DP2) system and diesel-electric propulsion. The vessel will sail under the Italian flag and is expected to be operational by the first quarter of 2025.
