NOAA selects Woolpert for hydrographic surveys supporting safe navigation
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) Office of Coast Survey has awarded Woolpert a five-year contract to deliver vessel-based hydrographic survey services. This indefinite delivery (indefinite quantity (IDIQ) agreement), shared among multiple contractors, comes with a ceiling of US$450 million. The contract focuses on supporting NOAA’s mission to develop, update and maintain nautical charts essential for maritime safety.
As part of this partnership, Woolpert will carry out task orders to gather, process and deliver high-resolution bathymetric data across designated US coastal regions. These operations will rely on advanced multibeam and sidescan sonar systems deployed from Woolpert’s specialized survey vessels. The resulting data will not only enhance navigation safety but also contribute to critical initiatives such as habitat mapping and flood risk assessment.
This marks Woolpert’s third IDIQ collaboration with NOAA and the Office of Coast Survey. By utilizing an adaptable contract model, NOAA ensures flexibility in meeting its evolving survey and charting needs.
Vital role
“The work of NOAA’s Office of Coast Survey is vital in maintaining current, highly accurate nautical charts and ensuring the smooth flow of shipped goods and services into and from the US,” said Ryan Cross, Woolpert project manager. “It’s an honour to remain a trusted partner in charting our nation’s coasts and continuing to support NOAA’s commitment to safe navigation, maritime commerce and preserving the health of our world’s oceans and waterways.”
Woolpert employs a wide range of technologies to support maritime data collection, including vessel-based sonar, manned and unmanned aircraft and satellite systems. Operating globally, the company combines its own fleet of aircraft, vessels and sensors with a reliable network of local collaborators to ensure efficient and precise survey operations.
