Saderet Supplies Edgetech Releases to Marine Scotland

Saderet successfully tendered to Marine Scotland for the supply of 20 Edgetech SPORT LF acoustic releases with pop-up assemblies, plus the associated PACS topside control equipment. These systems were subsequently deployed, together with passive acoustic loggers, in locations off the east of Scotland to investigate how the distribution of dolphins and porpoises changes with distance from the shore.

Ambient noise was recorded, as were mammal vocalisations which were processed to determine where the animals were and also to distinguish between species which emit different echolocation clicks. This data contributes to the long-term monitoring of protected species and improves the evidence base for future decisions on development in coastal waters, and the possible impact on dolphin and porpoise populations.

Due to the success of the study, Marine Scotland has ordered a further 7 Edgetech SPORT LF releases which will be delivered by Saderet in March 2014.
