SeaView Systems launches new products for enhanced ROV capabilities
SeaView Systems has introduced its latest innovative products aimed at enhancing and augmenting the capabilities of off-the-shelf and custom ROVs.
The SVS-708 SuperSea Power Supply and SVS-709 SubSea VPSU bring smart power management capabilities that extend the available power and umbilical power transmission capabilities for inspection class ROVs such as the Saab Seaeye Falcon, as well as observation class vehicles such as the Blue Robotics BlueROV2 and many others.
The SVS-709 SubSea has been designed from the ground up to take advantage of the latest high-power solid-state electronic components, enabling rapid response to the dynamic current draw of challenging ROV operations. This enables operation over a much broader voltage range with significantly improved reliability.
Real-time feedback from the subsea vehicle power supply
Long-distance tunnel inspections can be particularly challenging for ROVs, as the high duty cycle of thrusters running at full capacity for extended periods can put a strain on the thrusters and circuit boards, resulting in system failure. This excess loading can be extremely risky for both the vehicle and the client, especially when the ROV is 5km inside a tunnel.
SeaView’s Geoff Cook explains that one manageable failure can quickly escalate into something much more serious. This is why the capability to actively monitor not only the surface power supply but also real-time feedback from the subsea vehicle power supply unit is a potential lifesaver and great for peace of mind. The system provides input voltage, internal temperature and tether loss data, confirming that the ROV is running efficiently and enabling users to mitigate problems before they occur.
The system’s ability to condition input voltage as needed allows for painless swapping between umbilicals from as short as 50m to as long as 5km without the need to calculate and adjust voltage compensation gain settings, as required in conventional power supply systems.
