Singapore Maritime Academy ECDIS
Transas Marine Pacific has supplied the Singapore Maritime Academy (SMA), Singapore Polytechnic with ECDIS. The equipment was supplied to the Academy’s newly developed Centre for Advance Navigation, which includes a marine simulation function. The Centre now accommodates the latest Transas Navi-Sailor Electronic Chart and Display Information System (ECDIS), as well as Navi-Trainer ship-handling simulator. The system is capable of running an operational ECDIS and providing the various functions of a desktop ship-handling simulator. It allows the user to become familiar with the operation and use of some of the most common shipboard electronic navigational aids.
The ECDIS simulator at the SMA is the largest in Asia, with ten workstations and one instructor-bridge. This state-of-the-art equipment meets specifications drawn up according to SMA expertise and meets both students’ training needs and those of the shipping industry as a whole.
This new Transas installation allows SMA to conduct the complete range of courses for students going for Certificates of Competency, as well as for those participants from the shipping industry required to use Radar, ARPA, ENS or ECDIS in their day-to-day job. Thus the range of courses available at the new Centre includes IMO Model Course 1.07, Radar navigation, Radar Plotting and Use of ARPA, and IMO Model Course 1.27, The Operational Use of ECDIS and Electronic Navigation Systems (ENS).
