Stema Systems adds Sonardyne USBL to expand rental fleet
Underwater survey equipment rental specialist Stema Systems has placed an order for the first of what is expected to become a growing fleet of Sonardyne technologies within its rapidly expanding equipment pool. The Netherlands-based company has purchased Sonardyne’s Mini-Ranger 2 ultra-short baseline (USBL) tracking system along with multiple Wideband Sub-Mini 6+ (WSM 6+) transponders as it continues its expansion in Europe.
Stema’s Mini-Ranger 2 supports the company’s global rental customers across both the renewables and oil and gas sectors, providing survey-grade positioning for remotely operated vehicle (ROV) operations and towed system surveys.
Third-party vessel operations
The system is suited to nearshore and offshore projects and can be deployed on smaller vessels, pipelay and construction barges, or other vessels of opportunity requiring survey-grade positioning. Compact and straightforward to install, it supports tracking, telemetry and control of up to ten targets simultaneously, with an operating range of 995 metres – or up to 4,000 metres with the extended range version, which Stema has selected.
“Sonardyne’s Mini-Ranger 2 USBL system is perfect for our customers’ operations, especially when they’re using a third-party vessel, providing ease of installation and high performance for everything from UXO surveys to structure inspection and much more,” said Leon Hendriksen, sales & business development manager at Stema Offshore, a sub-bottom specialist survey system integrator.
“We’re happy to be supporting Stema Systems’ growth and meeting its customers’ needs across the offshore energy sector,” stated Alan MacDonald, head of sales, UK, Europe and Africa, at Sonardyne.
