Subsea UK Launch

Scotland's Secretary of State, the Rt Hon Jim Murphy, will welcome industry leaders and delegates when Subsea UK's flagship event Subsea 09 opens in Aberdeen next month. The MP for East Renfrewshire joins a raft of international speakers lined-up to take part in the event at the Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre on 11 and 12 February. The keynote presentation, focusing on exploiting the potential of the North Sea, will come from Gilles Hallé, developments and planning manager - business development, at Total E&P UK Plc.

Representatives of the UK Trade & Industry inward mission from Brazil, India, Mexico, Nigeria, Libya, Kazakhstan and Russia will also be in attendance and available for a limited number of one-to-one sessions centred on harnessing the UK's technology, services and expertise in other key subsea provinces around the globe.

Subsea UK chief executive Alistair Birnie said: "It is an honour to have an individual of Mr Murphy's calibre formally open our 2009 event and join a high profile line-up of speakers exploring how the use of innovative technology and cross-industry collaboration is helping exploit the potential of the UK Continental Shelf in terms of both developing new oil and gas accumulations and maximising recovery from existing fields.

A self-sustaining organisation, Subsea UK was set up to harness the UK's subsea experience and expertise. Featuring cutting-edge technology and the latest innovations and services from more than 100 exhibitors, this year's exhibition and conference is expected to attract around 2,000 delegates to Aberdeen to hear presentations from PetroCanada, Triton Group, Subsea 7, Simmons & Co, Technip, Douglas Westwood, Expro Group, SPT Group, MCS and Schlumberger Subsea Surveillance amongst others.
