Teledyne Marine releases renewed subsea pipe and cable tracking system
To ensure continuity of operation and long-term availability for offshore users, Teledyne Marine has introduced the HydroPACT 440 MK2, an updated version of its subsea pipe and cable tracking system. The new model builds on more than three decades of operational use, retaining established workflows and user familiarity while incorporating a modernized system architecture.
First introduced in the early 1990s, the HydroPACT 440 has become widely used for the installation, survey and verification of subsea pipelines and cables. The system is deployed across offshore energy, telecommunications and defence applications, where it supports real-time tracking and measurement, including proof-of-lay and monitoring of existing infrastructure. Its long service history has resulted in a large installed base and a workforce extensively trained in its operation, making continuity a key consideration in the system’s evolution.
Comprehensive redesign
According to Teledyne Marine, the MK2 reflects a comprehensive redesign focused on securing the product’s long-term future. While core performance characteristics and operational workflows remain unchanged, the updated system introduces a revised internal architecture intended to support future availability, maintenance and integration requirements, without disrupting established offshore practices.
“After many months of trials and testing, we’re extremely proud to introduce the HydroPACT 440 MK2,” said Jeremy Harrison, business manager at Teledyne Marine. “Customers can expect the same credible, proven performance they trust – but in a refreshed design built to operate reliably for decades to come. Continuity and future-proofing were our guiding principles.”
The HydroPACT 440 MK2 retains the flexibility of earlier versions and can be deployed on a wide range of larger ROVs and trenching systems, allowing operators to carry out in-house surveys and verify installation work as part of normal operations. This capability supports more efficient project execution and can reduce reliance on external survey services.
Teledyne Marine is also offering upgrade and replacement options for users of existing HydroPACT 440 systems, supporting continuity for the established installed base.
The company confirmed that the HydroPACT 440 MK2 will be introduced at the same price level as the previous model. The system is available for order now and will be formally presented at Oceanology International 2026, scheduled to take place from 10-12 March in London.
